Star-studded cast to pay tribute to world-leading vocal coach, Ian Adam - Proceeds will fund new Singing for Breathing project for respiratory patients - On Sunday 24 February 2008, over 50 celebrities from the worlds of stage and screen will pay tribute to the life and achievements of world-leading vocal coach, Ian Adam, who sadly passed away in May 2007. Ian believed that he could teach anyone to sing and proceeds from the event will go towards a project called Singing for Breathing that aims to help patients with respiratory problems at Royal Brompton Hospital, where Ian was treated for many years. The concert, entitled I'd like to teach the world to sing, is directed and staged by Gillian Lynne and will take place at Her Majesty's Theatre on Haymarket in London. Those paying tribute to Ian on the night will include Sir Roger Moore, Jeremy Irons, Helena Bonham Carter, Elaine Page, Wayne Sleep, Bonnie Langford and Gloria Hunniford to name but a few*. Singer, Peter French, is producing the concert and will also appear alongside the stellar cast. Money raised through the concert will go towards the newly created Ian Adam Memorial Fund called Singing for Breathing. The aim of the fund is to help staff at Royal Brompton Hospital to incorporate singing training into the physiotherapy and pulmonary rehabilitation programmes given to respiratory patients treated at the hospital. A previous pilot project organised by the hospital's arts department showed huge potential for singing to improve breathlessness and breathing control for patients with asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD) and emphysema. Mr Neil Moat, consultant in cardiothoracic surgery at Royal Brompton Hospital, said, "I knew Ian for many years and it is truly fitting that his Singing for Breathing Fund will help patients with serious respiratory conditions. Ian took a remarkably brave and positive approach to his own long illness. I am sure he would approve of this project in a field that was close to his heart. I am delighted to hear that this concert is being held to celebrate his life." Singer, Peter French, who was taught by Ian and who initiated the idea of holding the forthcoming concert, said, " Ian was a remarkable man and a profound teacher. He had a unique gift of instilling great confidence into all his students and making you believe you could achieve anything your heart desired. In the same way, this gift will be passed on through the Singing for Breathing Fund at Royal Brompton Hospital. Through the skills being taught and the art of practice, patients will gain confidence, just as we did, to breathe more efficiently and in a way that benefits their recovery and so their overall health." Tickets are now on sale for ‘I'd like to teach the world to sing' and can be purchased via the See Tickets website at www.seetickets.com or by calling 0844 412 4657. Tickets to this celebrity-packed, one-off event are expected to sell-out very quickly, so those interested in attending are advised to book without delay.
